About this tour

The Grand Egyptian Museum tour takes you through the largest archaeological museum on earth, home to more than 100,000 artifacts spread across five massive exhibition levels and over 7,000 years of history, guided by a licensed Egyptologist who knows exactly where to slow down.

Most visitors to the GEM spend their first hour lost. Without a guide who understands the layout, the scale works against you. With Respect Tours, Egypt Through Local Eyes, and more than 45 years of experience creating expert-led Egypt tours since 1978, the experience is designed to feel smooth, personal, and deeply connected to the history behind every gallery.

During the tour, you’ll stand before the complete treasure collection of Tutankhamun, 5,398 objects displayed together for the first time in history. You’ll walk through the Grand Staircase lined with colossal royal statues and explore the Royal Mummies Gallery, where some of Egypt’s greatest pharaohs rest in climate-controlled silence.

Private transfers, timed museum entry, lunch, and full guided access are all included, creating one of the most complete and comfortable museum experiences in Egypt.

Itinerary

Full-Day Grand Egyptian Museum Tour

Your day begins with private pickup from your hotel or the airport in Cairo. Your driver will meet you at your chosen time before heading toward Giza, with the journey usually taking around 20–30 minutes depending on traffic. Your Egyptologist guide will either accompany you during the drive or meet you at the museum entrance, allowing the introduction to begin before the tour itself starts.

Once inside the Grand Egyptian Museum, start exploring some of the museum’s most famous sections, including the Grand Staircase, filled with huge ancient statues and royal artifacts, before continuing through the main galleries and modern exhibition halls.

One of the tour’s highlights is the complete treasure collection of Tutankhamun, 5,398 objects discovered by Howard Carter in 1922, displayed together here for the first time in history. Your Egyptologist explains what each object was for and why its burial mattered.

Continue to the Royal Mummies Gallery, where some of Egypt’s most powerful rulers rest, including Ramesses II, Seti I, Thutmose III, and Queen Hatshepsut. Seeing the preserved faces of pharaohs who ruled thousands of years ago creates one of the most memorable moments inside the museum.

The tour also includes the museum’s modern digital exhibition zones, featuring reconstructed tombs, interactive displays, animated historical presentations, and advanced conservation galleries that connect ancient Egyptian history with modern technology and archaeology.

After several hours exploring the museum, enjoy lunch at a quality local restaurant near the Giza Plateau, included as part of the tour. At the end of the experience, your driver will transfer you back to your hotel or the airport comfortably.

Traveler’s Tip: Comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended, as the Grand Egyptian Museum is enormous and includes long walking areas between galleries and exhibition halls.
