Here, you’ll explore two of Egypt’s oldest pyramids, the Bent Pyramid, famous for its unique change in angle partway up, and the Red Pyramid, the first smooth-sided pyramid in history, built from striking red limestone.
Continue to Saqqara, home to the world’s first monumental stone structure, the Step Pyramid of Djoser. Built in the 27th century BCE, it marks the beginning of pyramid architecture. Wander through the necropolis to see the Pyramid of Teti and the beautifully decorated Tomb of Mereruka, with walls covered in intricate carvings from over 4,000 years ago.
After exploring Saqqara, head to Memphis, the ancient capital of Egypt during the Old Kingdom. Here, you’ll stand before the colossal statue of Ramses II, admire the graceful Alabaster Sphinx, and stroll through the open-air museum displaying artifacts from Egypt’s earliest dynasties.
