The Cairo Alexandria Cultural Tour is for travellers who want to understand Egypt, not simply tick it off a list. Instead of following the usual route through Egypt’s most famous ancient monuments, this four-day journey focuses on historic streets, traditional homes, local markets, religious heritage, Greco-Roman sites, and the Mediterranean character of Alexandria.
Travel through the centuries that shaped the country. In Islamic Cairo, walk along Al-Muizz Street and visit an Ottoman-era house, where carved façades and quiet courtyards show how Cairenes once lived.
In Alexandria, descend into the Catacombs of Kom El-Shoqafa, where Egyptian, Greek, and Roman art share the same chambers, then visit the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, a modern tribute to one of the ancient world’s most celebrated libraries. Between visits, discover local flavors and travel along the Corniche with the Mediterranean beside you.
With Respect Tours, Egypt Through Local Eyes, your airport transfers, private transportation, three nights in 4-star hotels, guided sightseeing, and travel between Cairo and Alexandria are arranged in advance. Welcoming travellers since 1978, our local team brings the two cities together in a balanced short break with time for history, local culture, waterfront views, and everyday Egyptian life.

Your Cairo Alexandria Cultural Tour begins when you land at Cairo International Airport. A Respect Tours representative will meet you, assist with the arrival procedures, and accompany you to your private air-conditioned vehicle. Transfer to your 4-star Cairo hotel and complete the check-in process.
Meet your Egyptologist guide and continue to Al-Muizz Street, one of Cairo’s richest areas of medieval Islamic architecture. As you walk through the historic district, mosques, schools, fountains, old houses, and decorated stone façades reveal how the city developed across several centuries.
Visit Bayt Al-Suhaymi, an Ottoman-era home built around quiet inner courtyards. Inside, carved wooden screens, reception rooms, and carefully designed living spaces offer a closer look at how wealthy Cairene families once lived. Entry is subject to the house’s opening arrangements.
By now, you will be ready for lunch. Sit down at a local restaurant and enjoy a traditional Egyptian meal—an easy way to discover the flavors of everyday Cairo.
After lunch, continue to Khan El-Khalili Bazaar. Walk through its narrow lanes, browse shops filled with lanterns, spices, jewelry, textiles, and handmade products, or simply take in the atmosphere of one of Cairo’s oldest market districts.
As the day cools, the old city changes mood. Walk through the historic district again as the lights come on and Al-Muizz Street takes on a different atmosphere in the evening. Afterwards, return to your hotel to rest after your first day in Egypt.
The order and duration of the visits may be adjusted according to your flight arrival time, traffic, and site opening hours.
Traveller’s Tip: Wear comfortable walking shoes, as the old streets can be uneven. Keep small change with you for the bazaar, and carry a light scarf if you plan to enter a mosque.
🍽️ Meals: Lunch 🛏️ Overnight: 4-star hotel in Cairo
After breakfast, you check out of your hotel and leave Cairo behind. A private air-conditioned vehicle takes you north to Alexandria. The drive takes about 2.5 to 3.5 hours, depending on traffic, and it is a relaxed way to watch the city give way to open land and, finally, the sea.
Your first stop in Alexandria is the Catacombs of Kom El-Shoqafa. You go down a spiral staircase into a burial site that is more than 1,800 years old. Here, Egyptian, Greek, and Roman art sit side by side on the same walls, a small sign of how many cultures once met in this city.
Continue to Pompey’s Pillar, a monumental Roman column standing above the remains of the ancient Serapeum. Despite its name, the column was not built for Pompey; it was erected in honor of the Roman emperor Diocletian. Walk through the archaeological area with your Egyptologist guide and learn about the temple complex that once occupied the site.
From there, you continue to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. This modern building was created in memory of the great Library of Alexandria, one of the most famous libraries of the ancient world. Step inside, explore the library and its exhibitions, and see how Alexandria keeps its love of learning alive today.
By now, the sea air will have you hungry, so you stop for lunch at a local restaurant. Alexandria is known for its seafood, so this is a good place to try it, or you can choose another local dish if you prefer.
After lunch, you take a scenic drive along the Corniche, Alexandria’s long waterfront road. The Mediterranean stretches out on one side, and the city’s old buildings line the other, so you can enjoy the views without any rush.
Later, you check in at your 4-star hotel, and the evening is yours. Take a walk, find a café, or simply rest after a full day.
Traveler’s Tip: Bring a light jacket, because the sea breeze can feel cool in the evening, even on warm days. Wear comfortable shoes, since the Catacombs have steps and the floors can be uneven.
🍽️ Meals: Breakfast, Lunch 🛏️ Overnight: 4-star hotel in Alexandria
After breakfast, check out of your hotel and begin another day exploring Alexandria, this time focusing on its royal past and Mediterranean character.
Start at Montaza Palace Gardens, a large coastal estate connected with Egypt’s former royal family. Walk through landscaped gardens filled with palms and Mediterranean plants, and enjoy views of the palace façades, sheltered bays, and the sea beyond the grounds. Access to the palace interiors depends on current opening and entry arrangements.
From the gardens, you drive to Stanley Bridge, one of modern Alexandria’s most recognizable landmarks. Stop for photographs and look across Stanley Bay, where the bridge, waterfront buildings, and Mediterranean form one of the city’s best-known views.
By now, you will be ready for lunch, so you sit down at a carefully chosen local restaurant. You can try traditional Egyptian dishes or Alexandria’s famous seafood, whichever you prefer.
After lunch, the rest of the afternoon is yours to enjoy at your own pace. Stroll along the waterfront, stop at a café for tea or coffee, or browse the traditional shopping areas for small gifts to take home.
In the afternoon, meet your driver and begin the private journey back to Cairo. Upon arrival, transfer to your 4-star hotel, complete the check-in process, and enjoy your final evening at leisure.
The order and duration of the visits may change according to traffic, weather, and access arrangements at Montaza.
Traveler’s Tip: Bring sunglasses and a hat, since the waterfront can be bright and breezy. Keep a little cash with you for cafés and small shops.
🍽️ Meals: Breakfast, Lunch 🛏️ Overnight: 4-star hotel in Cairo
After breakfast, check out of your hotel and meet your guide for a final cultural experience before transferring to the airport. The available program will be arranged around your confirmed flight departure time.
Explore the historic religious quarter of Coptic Cairo, where churches and other places of worship stand within and around the remains of the Roman fortress of Babylon.
Visit the Hanging Church, one of Cairo’s best-known Coptic landmarks. The church was built above the southern gatehouse of the Roman fortress, which gave it its name. Inside, see carved wooden details, icons, and architectural features connected with centuries of Coptic Christian history.
Continue to the Church of Saints Sergius and Bacchus, also known as Abu Serga. According to Christian tradition, the church stands above a crypt associated with the Holy Family’s journey through Egypt.
The visit may also include the Ben Ezra Synagogue, an important part of Cairo’s Jewish heritage. Entry depends on opening hours and local access arrangements.
Alternatively, discover a traditional Cairo neighborhood away from the usual tourist route. Walk through local streets, browse everyday shops and markets, and observe the cafés, bakeries, and small businesses that form part of daily life in the city.
After the selected experience, meet your driver for the private transfer to Cairo International Airport. The tour ends with assistance according to your departure arrangements.
The selected program and duration of the visits will be confirmed according to your flight time, opening hours, and local conditions.
Traveller’s Tip: If visiting Coptic Cairo, wear clothing that covers the shoulders and knees. Keep your passport, flight documents, and valuables in your hand luggage for the airport transfer.
